Social Work Services in the Surrogacy Treatment Surrogacy is one of the third-party infertility treatments recommended by a gynecologist to women whose uterus is unable to carry an embryo for any reason. In this method, the embryos obtained from the artificial insemination of an infertile couple are transferred to the uterus of another woman. So, the pregnancy process takes place in surrogacy for nine months. This treatment is highly sensitive in terms of what is shared between two families – the genetic parent and the Surrogate.
In Royan Institute, according to the diagnosis of the gynecologist, a woman will be introduced to the social work unit to receive the necessary counselling and assessment for surrogacy.
Usually, Surrogate volunteer introduced to the social work unit by the candidates for surrogacy treatment. Social workers give them necessary counseling and also screening in case of psychosocial issues then let them to start the treatment process.
Social workers manage and facilitate the surrogacy process based on their professional knowledge, skills and experience so they can help the couples involved in surrogacy treatment, experience with the lower stress and trauma.
The supervision of social workers in surrogacy treatment are carried out in four stages as follows:
