Hysterosalpingography (X ray dye test):

A hysterosalpingography (HSG) is an X ray dye test that allows your provider to see your uterus and fallopian tube. The injection of the contrast material is performed better 2-4 days after the end of menstrual bleeding. The color photo of the uterus is a relatively short process that, if the patient cooperates, the pain caused by the injection is very little and can be tolerated by the patient.

Necessary recommendations before doing a color photo of the uterus:

1- You should avoid any sexual activity (marital relations) from the time the menstrual bleeding ends until the time this procedure is performed.

2- Fasting is not needed, but to prevent possible weakness you can eat a light meal.

3- You should have your previous documents with yourself.

4- To perform the patient’s affairs, the presence of your husband or others is necessary.

5- Before taking a test, you should empty your bladder.

Procedures for taking HSG:

• At the first, the working method will fully explain for you.
• In this center, fully sterilized equipment will be used.
• Before the procedure the staff of this section will give you a pain medication.
• The patient is placed on the radiology bed in a gynecological examination position.
• The gynecological examination device is placed in the patient’s vagina.
• The contrast agent enters the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes through a special catheter. As well as, the necessary images will take under the fluoroscopy system.
• This test time takes 15-20 minutes.

Care after doing HSG:

• You should avoid heavy activities for 24 hours.
• It is possible that you have spotting after HSG, which is normal.
• If you feel pain in the lower abdomen, you can use a pain reliever (ibuprofen or mefenamic acid).
