Availability of services in men’s surgery rooms:
  • Micro-Dissection TESE (MicroTESE):

Microscopic testicular sperm extraction (microTESE) is a surgical procedure performed for men with Non-Obstructive Azoospermia or severe testicular failure. During a MicroTESE, a small incision is made in the testicle which takes sperm directly from the seminiferous tubules of a man’s reproductive system with general anesthesia under the operating microscope; any sperm found reserved for in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Royan Institute scores top in IRAN to achieve pregnancies through the successful performance of Micro-TESE.

  • Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA):

TESA is a minor procedure performed for men with Obstructive Azoospermia where it is expected that sperm will be found easily. TESE involves making a small incision in the testis and examining the tubules for the presence of sperm. It is either done as a scheduled procedure or is coordinated with his female partner’s egg retrieval.

  • Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA):

PESA may be performed for men with Obstructive Azoospermia, under local anesthetic, using an insulin needle inserted percutaneously into the epididymis while withdrawing on the syringe and thus, aspirating sperm. During the procedure, sperm is directly removed from the testis to be used in an IVF-ICSI cycle.

  • Microsurgical Varicocelectomy:

A varicocelectomy is the most common procedure performed to removal of dilated blood vessels inside the scrotum called varicocele. Approximately 15% of the male population has varicocele and may occur the pooling of blood. It affects the circulation in the testes, changing the temperature and affecting the microenvironment of the testes. As a result, decreased sperm count, decreased motility and poor morphology may occur. With microscopic varicocele surgery, a high-powered surgical microscope is used to perform the operation and helps prevent complications (such as hydrocele) while dividing the veins contributing to the varicocele.

Royan Institute is the first center to use this Microsurgical Varicocelectomy in IRAN.

  • Vasovasostomy

It is a microscopic surgery procedure to reopen tubes that have already been closed with a vasectomy. This procedure is performed with high success in Royan Institute to restore male fertility.

  • A Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP):

It is a surgical procedure that involves cutting away a section of the prostate. The prostate is a small gland in the pelvis only found in men. It used to treat urinary problems that are caused by an enlarged prostate.

  • Hydrocele:

A hydrocele (HI-droe-seel) is a type of swelling in the scrotum that occurs when fluid collects in the thin sheath surrounding a testicle. Hydrocele is common in newborns and usually disappears without treatment by 6 to 12 months age. Older boys and adult men can develop a hydrocele due to inflammation or injury within the scrotum. If the hydrocele does not resolve on its own, then it needs to be surgically repaired to prevent further complications.
